What is the North Country Cybersecurity Conference
North Country businesses and organizations are not immune to cyber threats in the interconnected global network. The need for Cybersecurity for local businesses, government organization and law enforcement in the North Country is just as important as large enterprises in major cities. As described by FireEye, one of the premier companies in the cybersecurity “Kill chains, zero-day attacks, ransomware, alert fatigue and budgetary constraints are just a few of the challenges that cyber security professionals face.” Business managers and IT professionals “need a stronger understanding of these topics and many others, to be able to confront those challenges more effectively.” Building on a successful conference in 2018 that was attended by 196 individuals, we will deliver a more powerful event hosted on the SUNY Plattsburgh Campus on Friday, 18 October 2019 from 9AM until 5PM.
The North Country, to include Clinton, Essex, Franklyn, Jefferson, Lewis, St. Lawrence, Hamilton and Warren counties, is the home of vibrant cross-border manufacturing, warehousing and tourism. It includes many state organizations such as Department of Prisons, Adirondack Park Agency, ORDA , federal organization such Homeland Security, U.S Customs and Border Protection and many local and tribal (St Regis Mohawk Reservation) government organizations. These organization can benefit from ongoing Cybersecurity Awareness, management and technical advice. The purpose of the 3rd Annual North Country Cyber Conference is to educate local business and government organizations on the need and implementation of cybersecurity measures and technical safeguard to protect user data and business intelligence. We also expect attendance from both NY and VT companies, government organizations and colleges.
Along with a general Business and Technical tracks, this year we delivering a Law Enforcement track and invited speakers to present on cybercrime and law enforcement investigative techniques.
Faculty members and graduate students have the opportunity to present their concept papers and original research in the Academic Track, which is run by our first PhD in Cyber at SUNY Plattsburgh – Dr Zareef Mohammed.
To this end, we would like to invite you attend or to be one of our speakers to this great event. We expect between 250-300 attendees for an activity filled October day on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus in the middle of the lake city, Plattsburgh.
